They could only be handed over to their parents that night after a complicated and time-consuming search and rescue operation, the police said.
The two girls had left the organized ski room in the “Ladis-Fiss-Serfaus” ski area in the early afternoon to go around a flat area and reach the Alpkopfbahn valley station.

Fell into the water several times
On their descent, they encountered extremely steep, impassable terrain until they finally reached the water-bearing Tschuppbach without cell phone reception and followed the stream bed on foot. They repeatedly fell into the water and were completely hypothermic. One of the girls also sustained a finger injury.
At 5:10 p.m. one of the snowboarders managed to reach her mother by phone, who started the rescue chain. Rescue workers discovered the first footprints in the search area early in the evening and the people they were looking for were located using a fire service drone.

After initial care, they were rescued using rope safety, whereby an alpine police officer and a mountain rescuer had to abseil down to the people in distress over steep, partly rocky forest terrain.
