The emergency services were alerted to the agricultural property in the town of Reith around 3:30 a.m. The 61-year-old farmer was woken up by loud noises and noticed that his chicken coop was completely on fire. He called the fire department and tried to control the flames himself – a hopeless endeavor due to the size of the fire.
When emergency services arrived, the flames were already threatening to spread to a wooden warehouse. The 7 fire departments, which arrived with around 70 men, were able to prevent this and bring the fire under control.
The chicken coop was completely destroyed and the warehouse was only slightly damaged. The 5 chickens housed in the coop did not survive the fire.
