Welser pop-up store in medieval walls

On November 4th, Thomas Griesmeier opened his new pop-up store in Schmidtgasse. A little later came the lockdown and the four-week closure of his shop. With a “restart” on Friday, the merchant wants to catch up on lost ground and give it full throttle by January 8th: “Then I’ll lock it up again for a certain period of time. But I’ll have the 100 square meter shop at Schmidtgasse 5 for the whole of next year rented, “says Griesmeier.

Four years ago, the sales professional started his own business as a management consultant for fashion and sports stores. After two decades at Intersport headquarters and another ten years at the City-Outlet retail chain, Griesmeier dared to take the plunge into independence.

“This house is awesome”, enthuses the retail specialist about the medieval ambience of his new business location. On the ground floor, Griesmeier sells Italian women’s fashion, trendy accessories and decorative items in small numbers. On the first floor, Linz photographer Inge Streif takes family and Christmas pictures on weekends. Right next to it, the Chary-Chick company from Kematen is exhibiting stylish vintage furniture at Pichl.

Open until January 8th

Despite the lockdown, which brought him economic damage, Griesmeier remains optimistic: “Everything I had planned fell into the water. Both a fashion show and a singing evening. But I can’t change it anyway and will now continue over the Christmas holidays. ” Stay open until January 8th. The shop on Schmidtgasse is Griesmeieres fifth pop-up appearance. After stops on the town square, in Bahnhofstrasse, in Pfarrgasse and in the Freiung, the fashion expert is now making another attempt at his new temporary business.

The Corona aid largely bypasses Griesmeier. “Because I didn’t open my first store until the end of November in 2019, I lose all subsidies when it comes to sales compensation.” In any case, he would prefer the money of his customers and a full till a thousand times more than the laboriously applied for and often belatedly paid compensation from the father state.
