SECOND DEATH

According to Navalny’s spokeswoman, authorities said before the official announcement of his mother’s death that the cause of death was “sudden death syndrome.” Sudden death or instantaneous death refers to findings that lead to unexpected cardiac arrest and death. Broadcaster RT quoted an unnamed source as saying that Navalny died of a blood clot.

THE CORPSE

It is still unclear where Navalny’s body is. Novaya Gazeta magazine, citing an unnamed informant, reported that the body was taken to a hospital in the Salekhard district. He had bruises. These are indications of a type of seizure and cardiac massages for resuscitation. Some Russian newspapers reported that a special team of investigators had arrived from Moscow.

REPORT OF TUMULTS

Novaya Gazeta reported, citing an unnamed prisoner in the penal colony, that a “strange tumult” broke out in the prison on the evening of February 15th. The security precautions were then increased. In the early hours of February 16th, the accommodation was searched and the prisoners’ cell phones and other possessions were confiscated. The news of Navalny’s death spread in the prison camp several hours before the official announcement.

HEALTH

A day before his death, Navalny was shown joking on a video link with a court. The “Polar Wolf” penal colony is considered one of the toughest prisons in Russia. Navalny himself pointed to the lack of nutrition in Russian prisons, which is causing many prisoners to lose their teeth. Last year, supporters reported that Navalny was suffering from severe stomach pains.
