On Wednesday a call for help from Upper Austria. Religious hospitals

To draw attention to their – corona-related – situation at the limit, they take to the streets in front of their facilities on Wednesday. Connected with their “cry for help” is the demand for “relief through more staff, an end to additional tasks and a perspective on timely recovery phases”, informed the ÖGB Upper Austria in a broadcast.

As early as the end of October, the employees of the state hospitals had loudly advertised the vaccination and stopped working. This is the only way to relax their extreme situation. On Wednesday, the religious hospitals and nursing homes are now drawing attention to the fact that many employees are facing burnout because of the constant stress and are more and more leaving their jobs. At the same time as the rally, the vida union also sent an open letter to Governor Thomas Stelzer and his deputy Christine Haberlander (both ÖVP), who is responsible for health. “The physical and psychological stress has long since exceeded any tolerable level,” call the employees in the health system for help. It therefore not only needs measures to recognize and appreciate the work, but also to relieve it.

However, the authors also make it clear that “even before the corona pandemic, the situation in the Upper Austrian hospitals and nursing homes was tense”: Ever increasing economic pressure and the resulting personnel situation, “which is simply not sufficient to meet the needs and requirements to take the patients into account as it would be desirable, “they cite as the main reason. The “urgently needed increase in staff with trained personnel has been ignored and blocked for years”. The argument that the labor needed is “simply not available” is “cheap”. Finally, they appeal to Stelzer and Haberlander to exercise their “political responsibility”. “Relieve and support your colleagues now. Immediately.”
