A new food supply system will be used in the Braunau St. Josef Hospital from March: The new food carts have climate zones and a cooling and heating function. Hot food stays at a temperature of 75 degrees, cold food stays cold – which is especially important in summer. This increases food safety, hygiene and quality of the food. All dishes are also replaced. The hospital is investing more than 400,000 euros in this. Managing director Erwin Windischbauer believes that an investment is important: “In a hospital, the quality of the food is particularly important.” It’s not just about the taste and variety of the offering, but also about the correct storage and temperature of the food.

380,000 meals annually

34 employees work under the direction of Gerhard Haubentrath in the kitchen of the Braunau Hospital. They prepare around 380,000 meals a year, including 200,000 portions for lunch. “We offer a meatless or sweet dish every day and are also working on replacing meat dishes with vegetarian alternatives. Various savory or sweet loaves, lentil and grain alternatives or even vegetable variations are very popular. We are following a social trend and achieving this also a positive contribution to climate friendliness, which is particularly important to us as a Franciscan company,” says kitchen manager Gerhard Haubentrath.
