Organs are also affected and permanently damaged by the resulting circulatory disorders. “Hyperlipidemia has no symptoms until irreparable damage has already been done – for example, in the event of a heart attack.”

This is best done during a health examination by your family doctor or during a laboratory examination by a specialist in internal medicine. If the values ​​are too high, further therapeutic measures are taken to ensure that serious illnesses do not occur.

If your values ​​are good or just good, you should definitely take preventive action with exercise and a balanced, low-fat, reduced-sugar diet.

Ideally, you don’t fight against high blood lipid levels, but rather prevent them in good time. “Please also note that the possibility of a lipid metabolism disease increases with increasing age. From the age of 30, the risk of this increases continuously. This results in a delayed increased risk of serious illnesses such as a heart attack or stroke from the age of 45.”

Therefore, all women and men should have their blood lipid levels checked regularly in young adulthood and maintain a healthy lifestyle. “Intervening early on blood lipids is the best precaution for healthy aging,” advises Sieghartsleitner.
