In 1959, the parish of Aurach am Hongar received a new organ from Johann Pircher, an organ builder from Tyrol. It replaced an instrument that had been destroyed by fire.
65 years after it was built and 30 years since the last service, the work has now been cleaned and tuned. After an inventory by the diocese’s organ consultant, the master organ builders Franz Böck and Klaus Kirchmayr from Asten were commissioned to carry out the work.

With the support of parish helpers, the instrument was dismantled within a week and the mechanics checked. The experts checked each of the approximately 550 pipes for functionality and repaired them if necessary. The wooden pipes were impregnated against possible mold growth and each part was dusted and cleaned. The mechanics now work perfectly again and all the notes are in tune.

At 65 years old, the Auracher organ is now in the prime of its life. Good, well-maintained organs serve for centuries. The oldest organ in Upper Austria is in Hart near Pischelsdorf (Innviertel) and dates back to 1628.
