Pirates kidnap container ship crew members in the Gulf of Guinea

Pirates in the Atlantic Gulf of Guinea attacked a container ship and abducted six crew members. This was announced on Monday, December 13, by the portal Dryad Global, which specializes in maritime security.

According to him, the attack on the ship was made 48 nautical miles northwest of the port of Luba in Equatorial Guinea. So far, the name of the container ship and what flag it was sailing under have not been disclosed. The identity and nationality of the abducted sailors were also not disclosed.

According to the portal, in 2021 this is already the 10th case of a pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea, during which time they kidnapped 76 sailors.

Earlier, on October 25, a Marine unit from the Russian large anti-submarine ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov prevented the hijacking of a Panama-flagged container ship in the Gulf of Guinea. A Ka-27PS helicopter with a Marine Corps unit was raised from the Russian ship to intercept the pirates and sent to the area of the incident. When a military helicopter approached, the pirates left the ship, heading by boat towards the coast. After that, an anti-terror group was landed from “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” on board the container ship, which freed the crew.
