The resolution, adopted by 99 of the 120 Knesset (parliament) deputies, highlighted that “Israel categorically rejects international rulings on a permanent solution with the Palestinians” and that this solution can only be reached “through direct negotiations between the parties and without preconditions.”
He added that “Israel will continue to oppose the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state,” since “such a declaration after the October 7 massacre would provide an enormous reward for unprecedented terrorism and would prevent any future peace agreement“.
The role of the United States in the conflict
The vote in the Israeli parliament came hours after the United States declared today before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, that opposes Israel being forced to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories without receiving security guarantees.
The ICJ is holding hearings this week on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories since 1967, with a unprecedented number of 52 countries called to declareincluding the United States, Russia and China.
Most speakers called for Israel to end its occupation after the Six-Day War, but the United States defended its ally.
“The Court should not conclude that Israel is legally obliged to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from the occupied territory,” said Richard Visek, legal adviser to the US State Department, according to the AFP news agency.
