Authorities ordered the closings to curb further spread of the virus. According to the authorities, the outbreak in the east Chinese province, in which more than 200 infections have been detected since December 5, has so far mainly concentrated on the cities of Ningbo, Shaoxing and Hangzhou.
China has largely stopped the spread of the coronavirus since last year. Time and again, however, there are local outbreaks, to which the authorities react immediately with measures such as curfews and mass tests. Business activities are often disrupted. The government argues that the damage would be significantly greater if the virus were allowed to spread across the country. Nationwide, China reported 51 new local corona infections on Tuesday.
