As the police reported, around 9 p.m. a total of 13 members of a group of students from the Netherlands were traveling down the valley alone or in pairs on sledges. In the upper part of the route, one of the sleds must have braked abruptly to avoid hitting the people in front. As a result, 9 sledges crashed into each other.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Schladming and Schwarzach. Some of them have already been able to leave the hospital. According to the Salzburg State Police Directorate, further surveys are pending.
