Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba met with United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried. This became known on Monday, December 13.
Donfried is now in Kiev on a working visit.
“The interlocutors coordinated the positions of Ukraine and the United States on the eve of the visit of the Assistant Secretary of State to Moscow. The American side agreed with the principle “No decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine”, which was noted by Dmitry Kuleba, “- reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The United States confirmed its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and its readiness to “further contain” Russia.
On December 10, Kuleba said that Kiev’s main goal in the Donbass is to achieve peace through force. In addition, he called on Washington and its European allies to step up “efforts to contain Russia.” According to the Ukrainian minister, Kiev, together with partners, is already developing a “comprehensive containment plan.”
Relations between Russia and Ukraine have deteriorated since a coup d’etat took place in Ukraine in 2014. Kiev launched a military operation against Donbass, whose residents did not agree with the results of the change of power. In the current situation, the Ukrainian authorities blame Moscow, which has repeatedly stressed that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict, and has called on Kiev for a settlement.
