Annual per capita beef consumption fell 23% since 2013

The annual consumption of meat vaccine per capita in Uruguay It fell 23% since 2013, when it then represented almost 60% of the total meat intake per person in a year, until it dropped almost 14 kilos and represented 48% of the total.

The data was recorded by the National Meat Institute (INAC)which reported that beef consumption was 59.4 kilos in 2013, but is now slightly above 45 kilos.

On the other hand, between beef, poultry and pork, It was found that Uruguayans ate 94 kilos per capita last year, being their highest level since 2015. In turn, 2013 was the last year in which more than 100 kilos per person were consumed.

Compared to 2022, the increase was 1.5 kilos per person, with increases in sheep, pork and beef intake; but with decreases in regard to avian protein, something that denotes that in recent years there have been substantial changes in household consumption habits.

Uruguay consumes less meat per capita than Argentina

In comparison with the Argentina, Uruguay It falls far behind, since total consumption in the neighboring country has remained more stable over the last 10 years, although with some changes.

According to Indec data, Argentina consumes almost 115 kilos per year per capita of different meats, while, as we already said, Uruguay It reaches about 94 kilos per person. However, in the Argentina There was also an abrupt drop in beef consumption during the last decade, going from 63 kilos to 50 kilos.

The last year in Uruguay ate the same amounts of beef per individual as in Argentina It was 2014, while in 2023 more pork was consumed than the sister nation.
