Montevideo starting in June it will have six electric buses intended for tourism, with the aim of increasing the arrival of foreigners and strengthening the tourist offer for Uruguayans, that will have a differentiated rate.
The brand new Tourist Bus was presented by the mayor Carolina Cosse, who specified that the new service was awarded in a bidding process by the company Cutcsa and will offer four tours, in a concession that will be for 8 years with the option to renew for 8 more.
From the Municipality of Montevideo (IM) they indicated that “this new policy will provide security to the entire tourism sector, which will be able to count on and plan its offers with the certainty of a quality service, with different circuits, rates and care for the environment.”
The new service will have six double-deck electric units, a total of 60 seats and a semi-convertible upper deck, in addition to being accessible. It will also maintain the system that allows you to get on and off at different stops during the day and resume the circuit.
It is worth remembering that between 2014 and 2020 a first experience operated until its concession period ended, which was then interrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
