The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the EU to stop interfering in the internal affairs of states

Russia calls on the European Union (EU) to stop trying to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign UN member states and to start building interaction. This was announced on December 14 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the introduction by the EU of the next unilateral restrictive measures against Russian citizens and organizations.

“We call on the European Union to stop attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign UN member states. Start building interaction with all members of the international community on the basis of equality and mutual respect. Finally, to abandon all unilateral restrictive measures introduced outside the framework of international law, ”Zakharova said in a comment posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The statement notes that the European Union continues the practice of unilateral restrictions, illegitimate from an international legal point of view.

A day earlier, it was reported that the EU imposed sanctions on eight individuals and three legal entities from Russia. It was noted that the restrictions will affect several energy companies from the Russian Federation operating in the oil and gas sector of Syria.

In addition, the EU imposed sanctions against the private military company (PMC) Wagner for its actions in Syria, Libya and Ukraine – for alleged human rights violations. They include a ban on entry to EU countries, an asset freeze and a ban on cooperation. Russian Sergei K. was also included in the sanctions list for allegedly participating in hostilities in Libya.

On September 28, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov spoke about the provision of security services by Russian PMCs. According to him, the provision of consulting and security services by them does not contradict the legislation.

On September 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the Mali authorities independently and legally appealed to PMC Wagner to assist in the fight against terrorism.
