Employees in the Vöcklabruck district turned to the Chamber of Labor (AK) for help 7,861 times last year. 282 times it involved labor law problems such as incorrect final invoices, outstanding remuneration or terminations without notice. In total, the AK lawyers won 1.24 million euros for their members – with most conflicts being resolved out of court.
Even small amounts count
“In our commitment to our members, we make no distinction, whether the amounts are large or small,” says Michael Weidinger, AK district office manager in Vöcklabruck. The AK lawyers fought for 49.38 euros for a part-time cleaning worker last year. Her employer stubbornly refused to pay three hours of overtime plus bonuses.
AK Vöcklabruck received 4.89 million euros in payments in 268 social law matters. It was mainly about topics such as pensions and care allowances.
For example, an employee from the district contacted the Vöcklabruck AK who was severely disabled due to a chronic lung disease and therefore applied for a disability pension from the Pension Insurance Institute (PVA). The man was 80 percent disabled, his lung function was 30 percent, and because of his severe symptoms he had to be put into artificial deep sleep for days over the past two years. His shock was even greater when the PVA rejected his pension application. The AK Vöcklabruck then filed a lawsuit and, with the support of the employer and the works council, a settlement was reached. The PVA now accepts a permanent disability pension.
