Linz blocks ice rinks and indoor swimming pools with the 2G rule

Now the bathing and ice skating pleasure can begin: With the end of the lockdown in Upper Austria next Friday, not only retailers, hairdressers, gastronomy (except night-time restaurants) and Co. will lock up again, but also the baths in Linz and Traun.

Specifically, Linz AG will open its indoor swimming pools, wellness oases and ice rinks – both the halls and the open space – on Friday. Because while ice skating was possible in Salzburg even during the lockdown, Linz AG kept its ice rinks closed. “In view of the number of infections in Upper Austria, we thought it was more sensible not to open it,” explains Linz AG spokeswoman Susanne Gillhofer, adding: “We also see ourselves as a leisure facility, and these were not allowed to be opened anyway.”

Test on vacation

From Friday, nothing will stand in the way of swimming and ice skating fun – as long as you have been vaccinated or recovered, because the 2G rule applies to entry. “For school children, however, the ninja pass is valid, which is proof that they are tested regularly,” says Gillhofer. And how does it go on vacation? The school children have to provide an official negative test certificate.

In Traun, too, the ice rink in the spa center will open next Friday. The access rules here are comparable to those in Linz, i.e. the 2G rule applies.

Free fun

In Leonding, meanwhile, one is not yet entirely sure under which conditions one can ice-skate on the town square from Saturday. Last year, ice skating fun fell into the water due to the corona. The ice rink is currently being built. Visiting (and also renting ice skates) is free, which is why, in addition to the 2G or 3G rule, you will also need certain access restrictions – perhaps also a limit on the number of people who are allowed to go on the ice. “But which rules that will be exactly is still open,” says SP Mayor Sabine Naderer-Jelinek and adds: “We are still waiting for the state’s regulation.” Is that still possible, after all, should the unlocking take place on Saturday? “Yes, we can do that. We are already used to reacting at short notice,” she says with a smile.
