The government has not responded to the demand for a fundamental right to climate protection, “that’s why we are protesting today,” writes the “Last Generation” on X (formerly Twitter). There were kilometers of traffic jams and, according to the police, a total of 38 arrests were made. Video recordings show the situation on site:

22 activists were arrested on Laxenburger Straße and 16 on the Südosttangente, Mattias Schuster said when asked. On the A23, some people were stuck to the tires of a small truck. “As a result, the tires had to be removed and the vehicle had to be towed away,” said the spokesman about corresponding photos on the “Last Generation” X account.

According to the ÖAMTC, there was a traffic jam of around eight kilometers on the A23, which was only completely cleared after midday. At the intersection of Laxenburger Strasse/Raxstrasse and Grenzackerstrasse there was a traffic jam in all four directions, the automobile club reported.

The “Last Generation” recently called for a fundamental right to climate protection in the constitution. “If the government presents a binding plan to implement this right, then we will not carry out our announced protests,” it was emphasized. Otherwise, they want to bring the fight for climate protection onto the streets even more intensively. This Saturday “at 5 past 12” a major protest has been announced at the Vienna Museumsquartier.
