So now after all: Traunsteinstrasse in Gmunden will become a toll zone. More precisely, the “turning point” at the end of the road where mountaineers set out on tours on the Traunstein and hikers to the idyllic Mairalm. For three hours of parking on the east bank of the Traunsee, drivers will pay ten euros from April next year, for 24 hours it is already 25 euros. If you want to leave your vehicle in the reversing parking lot for two days, you have to spend 50 euros.
“No solution is satisfactory”
Parking space users who spend the night in one of the huts on the Traunstein should then be reimbursed ten euros from the hut keepers. However, this has not yet been finally determined. If you are traveling without a valid ticket, you have to reckon with disputes about property. The rest of Traunsteinstrasse remains a toll-free short-term parking zone. It is valid from April 1st to October 31st.
The fee for the parking lot should have been decided in March of this year. In the municipal council, however, this point was removed from the agenda. Nature lovers, alpine clubs and hut owners had defended themselves against the high fee and pleaded for a readjustment of the bus connection. The desire: a line with a connection to the Traunsee tram and the Gmundner train station, which also runs on weekdays – ideally with a combined ticket.
However, on Monday evening the Gmundner municipal council decided to charge the fee. “We want to promote public transport, the ecological factor plays a major role in this decision. There will be enough shuttle buses again. Unfortunately, there is no solution that satisfies everyone,” says Gmundens Mayor Stefan Krapf (VP).
