The police in Linz are warning of massive traffic disruptions today. The reason for this are demonstrations by opponents of the measure, which lead from 12 noon until late in the afternoon over several busy routes.
At the beginning, the rally train crosses the Nibelungen Bridge twice. The demo continues on the main square through the old town, past the country house and through the Römerberg tunnel. Then you want to move over the Donaulände, Gruberstraße and Europaplatz to the main train station. 30 tractors are to accompany the train. “The real goal of the meeting is clear: It’s about paralyzing traffic,” says David Furtner, head of the press office of the state police department. Legally, one could not intervene against the route guidance. In the current case, there are “no grounds for prohibition”.
Furtner expects massive traffic jams between noon and 2 p.m. when traveling across the Danube. The police advise commuters to avoid large areas – for example over the motorway or the new railway bridge. There should also be traffic jams in the late afternoon.
“Call for help” from hospitals
The area around the Ursulinenhof, where the state parliament meets, has meanwhile been declared a ban mile by the police. A seat ban will be issued, says Furtner. Today at 12.15 p.m., employees of religious hospitals and denominational nursing homes take to the streets in front of their facilities to draw attention to their tense working conditions. The call for help is organized by the union.
In an open letter to Governor Thomas Stelzer and his deputy Christine Haberlander (both VP), the vida union calls for the workforce to be relieved, including through an increase in staff. A meeting with the Corona opponents should be prevented.
