At around 3:15 p.m., the forester cut a tree on a slope with his chainsaw into three-meter-long blocks. When he had completely cut through the trunk, it turned in his direction and hit Grieskirchen in the leg. Because he was busy working in the forest alone, he alerted his 27-year-old son using his cell phone. This started the rescue chain.
The 64-year-old was flown to the hospital by rescue helicopter after receiving emergency medical care. The fire brigade was deployed to help rescue the man from Grieskirchen.
