ALUR recycled more than 2.5M liters of used cooking oil to produce biodiesel

Alcohols from Uruguay (ALUR) recycled more than 2.5 million liters of used cooking oil since 2014, the year in which it launched the Energy Transforms plan, aimed at collecting the liquid to use it for the production of biodiesel.

In recent days, the collateral company of Ancap Group signed an agreement with the Rocha Municipalityby which some 2,000 families from that department will join in recycling the product once it was used for cooking.

The agreement, signed in Capurro plant for him president of ALUR, Alfredo Fernández Sívori; the general manager of the company, Alvaro Lorenzo; and the mayor of Rocha, Alejo Umpiérrezwill allow the proper management of a waste that is highly polluting, and that, replacing diesel fuel of fossil origin, means a reduction of more than 85% of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Mayor Umpiérrez himself through his X account (formerly Twitter), recycling could end up covering some 4,800 homes and businesses in Rocha, in this pilot plan aimed at biodigesters.

ALUR exports biodiesel to Europe and other countries in the region

In 2023, Lorenzo explained that ALUR has the capacity to export 60,000 tons of biodiesela no small number within the growing international biofuels market.

In addition to shipments to European Union (EU)In March of that same year, ALUR managed to export about 3,700 tons of biodiesel bound for Peruand about 5,000 tons of canola oil and 700 of soy oil toward Chili.

The placement in the Peruvian market meant the third shipment of biodiesel in the history of the company, since it began exporting in March 2022. Only between November 2022 and May 2023, sales of canola oil brought it a turnover of 35 million dollars.
