The mother noticed smoke in the apartment around 5 p.m. and called emergency services. The fire department extinguished the fire with around 27 emergency services, but did not discover any injuries. The Vienna State Police Department reported that a search for the man and children is now underway.

Husband not at work, children not in kindergarten
The mother had previously been informed that neither her husband had appeared at work nor her two-year-old daughter and five-year-old son had appeared at the childcare facility, according to a police release. The 34-year-old Austrian then made her way to the apartment and noticed the smoke. The fire brigade operation was ended after one and a half hours, said spokesman Jürgen Figerl to the APA. The house was ventilated afterwards.

As a police spokeswoman explained to the APA, a ban on entry had been imposed against the Austrian in the past. However, this is no longer active. The family situation has probably been fraught with conflict for a long time. Divorce proceedings are also said to be pending.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Due to the circumstances and the unknown whereabouts of the father and children, an extensive search is currently underway for the three.
