The women’s strategy “Women.Life 2030” was launched by the state government six years ago and includes a good 100 measures, all of which are intended to help improve the lives of women in Upper Austria. The areas are diverse and range from health to work to family issues.

The results are measured once a year, and this year there is also an equality report with current surveys. And the data – collected by the opinion research institute Imas in January 2024 among 300 women and 200 men – show that an improvement is perceived in many points, which was something that Women’s State Councilor Christine Haberlander and the head of the women’s department Beate Zechmeister were happy about when presenting the report. Most women in this country between the ages of 16 and 65 feel “highly satisfied” with their life situation. Three quarters also said that it was very important to them to lead an independent and independent life.

High on the list is the call for flexible working time models and improving the compatibility of family and work – for example through company child and holiday care – explains management consultant Irene Maria Walter, who is supporting the project.

Central future issues for Upper Austria’s women are also support for single parents and the upgrading of social and educational professions. “Even though there is progress in many areas, there is still room for improvement in others,” said Haberlander. Particularly little change for the better is perceived in the area of professional and financial equality between men and women. Therefore, project manager Gerlinde Stöbich’s wish: “That women and men in top positions in politics, business and social life tackle the challenges together. My vision for 2030: equality has been achieved and makes any women’s strategy superfluous.”
