The ball will be rolling again in the Upper Austrian lower house of football from the weekend. At least in the Upper Austrian league and the state leagues. Clubs from the district league onwards start their second half of the season in two weeks.
In the Upper Austrian League, the UFC Ostermiething wants to build on the strong performances of the first half of the season. After the autumn season, coach Christoph Mühllechner’s team is in third place and goes into the second half of the season as one of the pursuers of Ligakrösus ASKÖ Oedt, only five points behind. The championship title and the associated promotion to the regional league is not the stated goal of the Ostermiethinger, says Mühllechner. If the title were won, the UFC would move to the regional league. “For me that would be a big sensation because Oedt is above all teams. We will try to annoy them,” says Mühllechner. The fact that his team is ready for the start of the second half of the season was shown last Friday in the friendly against regional league team UVB Vöcklamarkt. This was won 4:1. “It was a really good game for my team. Very important for their self-confidence,” reports the coach.
Opening against Mondsee
The first game of the second half of the season takes Ostermiethinger to Mondsee. “We’re going to Mondsee with a big chest and want to win,” says Mühllechner. The Ostermiethinger’s goal is not only to be successful in the league, but also to make it to the state cup final. The quarterfinal opponent is Perg. If they are beaten, the UFC would face the winner of the Schwanenstadt vs. Rohrbach game in the semifinals. While Ostermiething can play freely in the spring, the pressure is greater on the second Innviertler Upper Austria league team, SPG Friedburg/Pöndorf. The gap to the relegation zone is only five points. After good preparation, coach Ernst Öbster is hoping for a three-pointer in the opener away from home against Dietach. “We used the preparation to improve in many areas. We did that well. We are ready,” says Öbster, who has a clear goal for the second half of the season: “We have a single-digit place in the table as our goal before the season stated. We are not moving away from that.”
State league team SV Schalchen wants to build on their successful autumn season this weekend and celebrate their sixth win in a row. Second in the table will play their first game away against FC Andorf. “After a bumpy start, we were able to improve in all areas over the course of the fall. Now we want to build on our recent performances and take home a win,” says successful coach Robert Pessentheiner.
New coach
Pure relegation battle awaits the Union Esternberg footballers in the remaining 14 games. After a very mixed autumn season, Esternberg is in second-to-last place in the table with just eight points, tied with bottom team Sattledt. In order to stay in the league, an experienced coach, Josef Hamedinger, was hired. In addition, three new players, Marko Kovjenic, Benjamin Golubic and Ensar Skrijelj, docked in Esternberg. They should help to achieve the stated goal. “The new signings have made a very good impression so far. I am convinced that they will strengthen us,” says Esternberg’s sports director Norbert Beham, who also hopes that his team will be spared the devil of injuries in the spring: “We really had a lot in the fall Bad luck with injuries. Definitely one of the reasons why things didn’t go really well.” The Esternberg team will play the first game of the second half of the season at home against the superior league leaders Gmunden. “A very difficult start. But we are prepared and will do everything we can to create a sensation,” says Esternberg’s sports director.
