Handover to the district waste association

After more than 26 years as chairman of the district waste association (BAV), Vöcklabruck’s former mayor Herbert Brunsteiner handed over his office to Gampern’s deputy mayor Manuela Gschwandtner.

At the constituent meeting of the Vöcklabruck district waste association on Tuesday, the various committees of the district waste association were re-elected. The biggest change is the change at the top of the FOT: Vöcklabruck’s former mayor Herbert Brunsteiner resigned from his position as chairman after 26 years. Manuela Gschwandtner, Vice Mayor of Gampern, was elected as his successor.

Since 1995, Brunsteiner has played a key role in shaping municipal waste management. The good offer of separate waste collection in the district, which does not put the idea of pure waste disposal in the foreground, but aims to collect waste for the purpose of recycling, largely bears Brunsteiner’s signature. For example, the amount of residual waste per inhabitant in the district has remained relatively constant over the past 26 years, although the total amount of waste has increased significantly. During this time, the budget has increased 5.5 times, from 1.7 million to 9.5 million euros.

Other important milestones of Brunsteiner include the search for the location of the waste material collection centers in the district as well as their new buildings and conversions, the introduction of new waste collection fractions such as waste wood, building rubble or substitute fuels, the cross-community collection of green and shrubbery cuttings and the widespread introduction of the yellow sack and the red bin.

At the association assembly, branch manager Karl-Heinz Zeitlinger thanked Brunsteiner on behalf of the entire BAV team, who over the past 26 years has always had an open ear for the concerns of his employees and has clearly shown enthusiasm for waste management.

Manula Schwndtner is now waiting, among other things, to implement the amendment to the Waste Management Act 2002, which includes the bottle deposit, as well as the construction of further modern waste collection centers.
