The Montevideo Heritage Commission questioned the works announced by Cosse

The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, announced works on the rambla last week that were questioned by the Heritage Commission of the mayor’s office since they did not have the corresponding approval from that sector.

The president of the Heritage Commission of the Municipality of Montevideo, William Kingquestioned Mayor Cosse’s announcements regarding works on the boulevard that include a Bikeway. The presentation of the works took place on Sunday of last week where the mayor announced the set of works for the revitalization of the South Rambla and the Summer Theater and its surroundings.

Among the works is the construction of a Bikeway of 4.7 kilometers that will go from Sarandi to Morales – forming the first section – and from Morales to the fishing club area – forming the second section – where it will connect with the bike path existing.

The Heritage Commission’s objection

The president Heritage Commission of the IMM assured that the corresponding permits were not requested to carry out the construction of the Bikeway on the rambla For this reason, he announced that he will ask the mayor to suspend the work and did not rule out presenting an appeal for protection to prevent its progress.

The leader criticized the project and assured that the green proposed in the rendering “is very green” for the promenade and that it has to be “more delicate” than that of the 18 de Julio Avenue.

In addition, he assured that he contacted the deputy director of planning of the mayor’s office, Luis Oreggioni, to ask that she inform the mayor of the need to request the corresponding permits, who assured that she would transmit the statement to the departmental head.

“It seems like a capricious attitude and an exhibition of power,” questioned the leader, although he assured that “he wants to believe” that these are not the reasons why they did not work together with the commission.
