“I’m an ardent European,” said Nehammer. As Federal Chancellor, he will represent Austria’s interests in the EU, “always bearing in mind that the European Union itself is the greatest peace project in history” that needs to be further developed. This requires “strong voices, and Austria will be one of them”.
His meeting with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which lasted more than an hour, was all about the coronavirus pandemic, migration policy and the Brenner conflict between Austria and Bavaria, Nehammer reported. In the afternoon, the Chancellor will meet his colleagues from the other 26 EU countries for the first time at the Eastern Partnership Summit.
More information will follow shortly.
