A bronze rooster will in future adorn the Inn Bridge between Braunau and Simbach. The cultural association Danica-Austria under Zoran Sijakovic brought this cross-border project to life. The story behind it: In 1918 a soldier made his way home to Germany. He had a Serbian “Kikeriki rooster” with him, which he had taken with a lot of trouble and hardship on the long journey – to be raised for his chicken farm in Bavaria.
Rooster head chopped off
But the rooster was not allowed to cross the border. A Simbach customs officer drew the soldier’s attention to strict guidelines, according to which the owner of the living animal needed a whole series of documents and permits. This official mold ultimately cost the rooster his life: on the Austrian side of the Inn Bridge, the rooster was cut off the head. In the future, a bronze statue will stand there to commemorate this story, which the late press photographer Walter Geiring published in OÖN in 2018. The bronze rooster will bear his name and there will also be a memorial plaque. With this project in the course of “art in public space” one wants to create a new sight in Braunau and Simbach, so Sijakovic. The rooster is made by the Bavarian sculptor and guild master of the Innviertel artists’ guild, Christine Perseis.
Local councils met
In its most recent meeting, the Braunau municipal council approved this project and decided on a grant of 17,450 euros, combined with the advice to ask the city of Simbach for co-financing.
The municipal council also met in Mattighofen. What should the small town look like in the future? This is the question that some local councils asked themselves when it came to individual applications for reallocation, such as from grassland to company parking. “The issues of spatial planning and reallocations have haunted us for a long time, we’ve always responded to calls. As soon as someone wanted to reallocate, all the machinery started. I don’t know whether that’s the right approach. The community should think about how should Mattighofen look like in ten years? Do we want to continue the big influx, or do we want to create more quality for everyone who already lives here? Let’s take a retreat and create a mission statement, “says FP City Councilor Günter Sieberer, who is responsible for his plea received bipartisan approval. The zoning concept will be revised and then the individual applications will be dealt with again, so the further procedure was decided by a majority.
Preparation for train station
The award of a water supply for the new train station in Mattighofen was agreed under time pressure. The ÖBB project provides for new water pipes, and the municipality is responsible for this. Time is of the essence because the construction work should be completed in spring. As reported, the train stations in Mauerkirchen, Mattighofen and Munderfing are being modernized.
