President Luis Lacalle Pou He briefly reviewed the economic indices that the Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) had presented a week ago. “Today we have a historical record of jobs,” celebrated the President of the Republic, who had detailed that his administration began with a unemployment of 10.5% and some 50,000 jobs destroyed.

Next, the president referred to the real salary and he clarified that he was not going to make excuses about the situation in which that indicator found itself when he took office. “The real salary in December 2023 had grown by 4% year-on-year, the real salary has grown almost 2% in relation to 2019,” he detailed, referring to the Minister of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), Pablo Miereswhich was in the stands.

“One mixes with figures, but here there are people. These figures are not the result of chance,” said Lacalle Pou, who then highlighted the numbers of foreign direct investment during his government, which is one of the largest in Latin America.

In this regard, he mentioned precisely the stability that it provides Uruguay in relation to other countries in the region and how this has accelerated the arrival of investments, which grew by 140% in the last four years. “They are choosing our country to invest, to generate work,” he highlighted.

“We can say that there is strong growth in employment, that there is progress in the reform agenda, that there are more resources allocated to society, that we have the risk country lowest in our history, that there has been a reduction in taxes, that fiscal goals are met and that we have the inflation lowest in the last 18 years,” he summarized Lacalle Pou all the economic achievements of his government.
