The man was about 580 meters above sea level when a head-sized stone came loose on the hiking trail at 9:45 a.m. The 47-year-old stumbled, fell ten to 15 meters and lay unconscious on the hiking trail below.
Several other hikers – including trained paramedics and a medical student – gave the man first aid and alerted the emergency services. Because of the fog, the casualty could not be rescued with the rope; an emergency doctor was dispatched not far from the scene of the accident above the fog line to treat the man. The mountain rescue team then brought him to the valley and the rescue helicopter flew the hiker to a hospital.
