As reported, the WAG housing company wants to redesign the Johann-Roithner-Straße/Schulstraße area in the center of Traun. The basis for this was developed last year in a cooperative planning process with representatives of all local council groups as well as a team of architects, climatologists, traffic, spatial and local planners. “This meant that everyone involved was able to voice their concerns right from the start and develop the project together in a constructive and objective process, which is remarkable for projects of this size,” says Mayor Karl-Heinz Koll (VP).

Three new buildings with 100 apartments
The area extends over two plots with an area of almost 6,500 square meters. The two residential buildings at Johann-Roithner-Straße 5 and 5a are to be replaced by a new building project with optimal integration into the existing residential area. The draft envisages the construction of three new, multi-storey residential buildings with more than 100 apartments, social infrastructure and businesses, an underground car park and attractive green spaces and open spaces. “The new building will be built almost entirely on an area that has already been sealed; in addition to the new green areas, the roofs and facades will also be greened,” says Horst Irsiegler, member of the WAG management. This draft was the basis for the development plan that the Traun local council approved on Wednesday last week.
Demolition of the existing buildings is scheduled to begin at the end of January 2025, and the three buildings will be constructed in two stages by spring 2029.
