Why do urban trees have a number? What is the sponge city principle? How much energy is generated from PV systems? The city of Amstetten’s climate action plan answers these and more questions.

“It provides an analysis of the current situation: what measures the city is already taking in the area of climate protection and what effect they are having,” says Deputy Mayor Dominic Hörlezeder. At the same time, the plan in printed form is intended to raise awareness and inform Amstett residents.

“As part of the redesign of the main square, we can reduce temperatures by unsealing and planting trees,” says Mayor Christian Haberhauer, giving an example. At the same time, the sponge city system will create Amstetten’s largest retention basin to protect against heavy rain. This current analysis serves as the basis for the climate neutrality roadmap, says Hörlezeder: “Amstetten should be climate neutral by 2040.”
