The changes presented by the Alphabet subsidiary on Tuesday will, among other things, place price comparison sites more prominently in Google search results. In addition, users must explicitly agree to the exchange of their data between various group services.

The group had already presented some of these changes in January and readjusted them in recent weeks based on feedback from authorities, users and software developers. The changes are triggered by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which subjects technology companies to stricter regulation if they have a certain number of users.

This EU law will officially come into force in a few days. If companies fail to comply, they face penalties of up to 10 percent of annual sales. Because of the DMA, Meta, among others, had announced changes to its online networks Facebook and Instagram in recent weeks.
