Innovation and science
During his presentation, the candidate assured that he will be able to focus on national development, innovation and that he will maintain a good dialogue with the academy with the aim of continuing with the educational reform that he carried out last year when he was president of ANEP.
“It happened with me, in Tacuarembó, a few decades ago, when they extended their hand to me and told me ‘you can be whatever you want to be in life, and we are going to help you,'” said Silva, highlighting that he will also promote targeted social policies.
Accordingly, he promised that he would allocate 1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to innovation and science. “We are going to commit ourselves, to reach 1% for science and technology in this country; today we assume the commitment,” he remarked.
On the other hand, he was critical of the current economy and assured that he will try to export Uruguayan products and services. “We want to export products and services Uruguayans, and not Uruguayan workers, as unfortunately may be happening,” he said.
A candidate very sure of winning the internal elections
At the beginning of February, Silva was very convinced that he would win the internal elections. “I am very convinced of our project,” he said in a conversation with Radio Montecarlo and added: “I have had meetings throughout the country, the support we are having for our candidacy is many and I am confident that we are going to win the internal elections to transform the PC.” and lead the coalition in the next term of government.
On the other hand, the Colorado pre-candidate indicated that, during the current government administration, the Multicolor Coalition managed to “initiate processes of significant changes in the country”, such as the education reform, but also in the field of fiscal and social policies. “That’s why there has to be a new coalition government,” she said.
