Erich Habitzl, spokesman for the Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor’s office, confirmed a “Today” report on Thursday when the pensioner was suspected of deliberately endangering people from communicable diseases. Pretrial detention was requested but not imposed.
According to Habitzl, the elderly woman received a warning from the police on Thursday and Friday last week because she had violated the segregation requirements. After she left home again on Friday, she was arrested that evening.
Despite a request from the public prosecutor’s office, the Regional Court of Wiener Neustadt did not impose any pre-trial detention. The 80-year-old was released for milder means. According to Habitzl, the pensioner was instructed not to leave the apartment until the end of her quarantine.
