Real Madrid escaped with whistles and a black eye

A shrill concert of whistles in the football opera Estadio Santiago Bernabeu at half-time, a thrilling game until the end: Real Madrid didn’t exactly cover themselves with glory on the way to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Much to the delight of Xaver Schlager, who showed a courageous performance in defensive midfield.

Defending champion Manchester City left nothing to be desired with two 3-1 wins over FC Copenhagen. Bayern and Paris SG had previously made it to the last eight.
