Shortly after noon on Tuesday, employees of a shop in the city in the Gmunden district alerted the police: A 23-year-old Syrian from Vienna was said to have been caught trying to steal sporting goods and clothing. When he tried to escape with the stolen goods, the 23-year-old is said to have become violent. Because he was said to have behaved more and more aggressively, the store employees called the police.

The employees held the young man together until the police came – two of them were injured, among other things, by bites on their forearms.
The Syrian was temporarily arrested by the police, but remains silent about the allegations. He is initially taken into custody on the orders of the public prosecutor.
