Upper Austria as a source of inspiration for future social policy reforms – also at the federal level. With this goal in mind, State Councilor for Social Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (VP) called for a third federal care package and the nationwide introduction of compulsory German in social assistance at a press conference on Thursday.

Faster nostrification

In addition to the uniform reduction of the entry age for training in specialist (previously 19) and in qualified social care (previously 20) to 18 years, Hattmannsdorfer believes a national strategy for simpler and faster nostrification, i.e. the recognition of foreign educational qualifications, a central theme. “Without skilled immigration, we will not be able to maintain prosperity,” says the State Councilor for Social Affairs.

Club chairman August Wöginger (VP) was optimistic that something would happen in the case of nostrification during this legislative period. Wöginger sees no chance of requiring German in social welfare in the current government constellation. “Upper Austria is a pioneer with compulsory German in social assistance. Experiences from this should also provide impulses for possible reforms at the federal level,” confirmed Wöginger.
