It was only a matter of time before LASK would officially resolve the coaching issue. Now it is finally fixed: Andreas Wieland is the head coach of the black and white team from now on and will also look after the Linzers in the spring.
The contract runs until 2024. After winning the group stage in the Conference League and the rising form curve in the end of the autumn season of the Bundesliga, only one last conversation between Wieland and head of sport Radovan Vujanovic was pending to clarify the last details. “I have always emphasized that my primary concern is the success of the club, not my personal future. The cooperation with sports director Radovan Vujanovic was excellent from day one. I am very happy that LASK has now placed their trust in me and that I can continue on our common path, ”Wieland was quoted as saying in a club broadcast.
“Since I’ve been the sports director, I’ve been able to see how meticulously our coach goes about his work every day. Despite many failures and the resulting constant personnel changes, he managed the important turnaround. Under him as head coach, LASK has found its club philosophy again, “said Vujanovic.
Premiere as a boss
For Wieland it is the first station as head coach in the Bundesliga. From 2011 he was active in the youth team and in the academy of the second division St. Pölten. In 2018, Wieland moved to Upper Austria, where he first worked as the sports director at the Linz Football Academy, and from January 2019 took on the position of head coach at FC Juniors OÖ. Under Valerien Ismael, Wieland was already co-trainer of LASK before he took over FC Juniors again in January of this year to save the club from looming relegation.
In July of this year, ex-trainer Dominik Thalhammer brought him back to the LASK coaching team, before Thalhammer had to leave in September after the poor performance of LASK. Wieland was initially hired as an interim trainer until the winter break, now he is the permanent solution for the black and whites.
