With the advent of cell phones, the “selfie” has acquired a previously unknown importance. We encounter the self-portrait in every corner.
Looking at human faces has always been fascinating because it makes much visible behind the facade and is able to reveal the innermost parts of the person being portrayed. The first exhibition of this year in the Hartlauer Photo Gallery on the Pöstlingberg is dedicated to this area of tension. “You and me.” is the title of the show, which compares portraits and self-portraits and focuses on actors and self-promoters.

The topic of the latest exhibition was deliberately broad, says curator Chris Hinterobermaier. It ranges from close-ups to full-body portraits. “We want to explore the topic in many different ways; portrait photography is also a game with role models, with expectations, with wishes and longings,” says Hinterobermaier.

The exhibition in the Hartlauer Photo Gallery can be seen until April 28th with these images staged in every form. The house below the Pöstlingbergkirche is open from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
