The Brazilian Justice demands that tourists be asked for a vaccination certificate

Six of the eleven members of the STF voted in favor of the certificate during a virtual plenary meeting that will last until Thursday and in which so far no magistrate has expressed dissent.

The judges Roberto Barroso, Cármen Lúcia, Alexandre de Moraes, Rosa Weber, Edson Fachin and Luiz Fux, president of the STF, gave their support to the vaccination certificate.

Judge Roberto Barroso, instructor in this case, pointed out that to avoid crowds at Brazilian airports the certificate may be required by airline companies from foreigners before embarking to Brazil.

The ultra-conservative president Jair Bolsonaro He opposes the certificate because he considers it a measure by which the citizens’ “freedom” of decision is threatened.

The Attorney General of the Union, which represents the government, filed an appeal with the STF against the mandatory nature of the certificate.

Barroso’s opinion establishes that native Brazilians and resident foreigners who return to the country without having been vaccinated can enter on condition of carrying out a five-day quarantine after which they must perform a PCR test.
