“Machete murder”: became a victim “executed”

On the night of April 20th last year, they are said to have deliberately killed a fellow countryman at the Jägerstrasse subway station in the Brigittenau district of Vienna with a 70 centimeter long machete and several knives. According to the indictment, the victim, 31-year-old Hamlaoui D., was deliberately lured into a deadly trap and literally executed after previous arguments over money from drug trafficking.

Three of the four defendants are said to have sold drugs for D. in Vienna and felt cheated by him because of the payment. The four defendants agreed “to solve her problems with D. by force”.

The 22-year-old suspect, who was armed with a machete, is said to have called D. and lured him to the subway station. When the 31-year-old showed up, a 22-year-old is said to have attacked him with a machete. The three other defendants attacked the victim with knives. The four men surrounded D., incapacitated him with pepper spray and attacked him in a way that “which is tantamount to an execution”. The description of the victim’s injuries extends to over a DIN A4 page.

Except for the 22-year-old, the defendants did not confess. The hearing is scheduled for four days. Verdicts are expected on March 20th. The men face up to 20 years or life in prison.
