According to police, a 50-year-old left a pan with oil on the stove and then left the kitchen. According to his own statements, he just went to the toilet quickly – and then the area around the stove was on fire.

The 50-year-old fled from the house into the garden and called the fire department. The alerted emergency services were able to get into the kitchen with the help of heavy respiratory protection and extinguish the fire.
Since smoke poisoning was suspected, the man was taken to the Schärding Clinic by the rescue team. There was no one in the house other than the 50-year-old at the time of the fire.
