The 31-year-old lost the finish sprint for third place against the German Katharina Hennig after 50 km in Oslo on Saturday and, like last year, came fourth. The Swedes celebrated a double victory on the home turf of their badly beaten Norwegian arch-rivals thanks to Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson.
“It hurts extremely”
“It really bothers me. But that was a race at the highest level and my last lap was very strong. That was definitely a good performance. A 50 here is very difficult. I tried, but it hurts extremely when you comes into the home straight in third place and then narrowly loses,” said Stadlober after narrowly missing the podium again in one of the most important races in the World Cup. She just has to keep working on her sprinting skills and wait for the next chance, added the Olympic bronze medalist. In the current season she had already finished fourth in the Trondheim Skiathlon.
Close race for third place
In Oslo, Stadlober was 0.2 seconds behind Hennig after the marathon in the classic technique. The dominantly victorious Karlsson was already ahead of the leading group with 20 km to go and ultimately won by over a minute. Andersson pulled away from Stadlober and Co. ten kilometers from the finish. In the final phase, the woman from Radstadt attacked, only Hennig was able to follow her and intercept her at the finish line.
The men’s 50 with Mika Vermeulen is on the program on Sunday.
