Emergency power generators have been in high demand lately. The trading company Elmag from Tumeltsham is also feeling this: “It extends to all areas, from devices for public institutions and companies to the private sector,” says Christian Weiss, product manager for power generators at Elmag. “It was a long time coming, but we had a high point in autumn. In October and November we sold as many generators as we normally would in a year.”
Anyone who wants to buy a device for private use should find out about fuel storage in advance. “Because of its high flammability, petrol should only be stored in small quantities of around 20 liters in the same place. With diesel, I would not have to worry about larger quantities,” says Weiss. It is also important to pay attention to the durability. “A relatively large number of people still know that gasoline can only be stored for six months to a year. In the past, diesel could be stored for much longer, but today biofuel is added so that diesel only lasts for about a year.”
It therefore makes sense to buy a unit that uses the same fuel as your own car. Alternatively, you can buy alkalyte gasoline or bio-free diesel, which last up to five years.
As a rule, however, excessively large quantities are not necessary anyway. “The aim should not be to be able to use as much electricity in a blackout as with a regular power supply via the public network. It makes much more sense to limit yourself to the essentials, for example cooking and heating. You can also come with very small amounts Fuel out for several days. “
