LAMBACH. “ProMusic” is starting its eleventh season. As always, the concert series of the educational center “ProDiagonal” in Lambach offers two main focuses: The classical part, curated by Peter Deinhammer, is dedicated to the great composer, his role models and contemporaries in the “Bruckner Year 2024”. In the jazz program, Martin Gasselsberger presents exciting newcomers and established greats. “However, one or two people could accidentally end up heading towards Ansfelden in their improvisation,” says Deinhammer.

Since Anton Bruckner needs a symphonic line-up for the majority of his pieces – and the space in the Lambach concert hall is somewhat limited – Deinhammer chose a different approach: “I looked at who particularly inspired him and who his contemporaries were.”

So it’s hardly surprising that the concert series begins on March 20th with “Bruckner meets Bach”. Harpsichordist Peter Waldner plays from “Clavierübung 1” by the father of classical music. “Bach influenced and impressed all composers after him, including Bruckner, of course,” explains the co-director.

Other concerts in the series are dedicated to Liszt (June 6th), Wagner (October 17th) and, last but not least, his great competitor Brahms. “Bruckner was idiosyncratic – on the one hand he was insecure and always looked at what others were doing. On the other hand, he was very confident in his own work,” says Deinhammer.

Bruckner’s own music can be heard on June 27th: The young composers Leonhard Gaigg and Clara Donat have taken up and further developed his so-called “zeroth symphony” – Bruckner himself withdrew the work during his lifetime. The ensemble “Synergia” premieres the commissioned composition for “ProMusic”. “The circle closes in that Bruckner himself serves as a role model for contemporary music,” says Deinhammer. The concert is part of the “Rising Stars”: ProDiagonal supports aspiring artists from Upper Austria with various projects and offers them the opportunity to become active on stage.

Martin Gasselsberger has once again invited top-class musicians to Lambach for the jazz program: On April 18th, the Viennese jazz pianist Martin Listabarth will play from his solo program “Dedicated”, while Gasselsberger himself can be heard as part of the “Double Duo” on May 16th . Two successful duos, “Manhattan Dialogue” and “Avanti Avanti,” will be guests this fall.

Once again this year there are annual and “Quattro” subscriptions. The latter makes it possible to choose four concerts from the program.
