The railway announced on Monday that a corresponding urgent application for an interim injunction had been submitted to the Frankfurt Labor Court. “In particular, the far too short lead time of just 22 hours for freight transport is a sheer imposition,” explained Human Resources Director Martin Seiler.
“We consider these wave strikes to be disproportionate. They endanger supplies in the country,” said Seiler. From Tuesday at 2 a.m., the train drivers want to stop work for 24 hours. The freight transport strike is scheduled to begin today, Monday, at 6 p.m.

“Do everything we can to prevent this strike”
“We are doing everything in the interests of our customers to prevent this strike,” Seiler continued. Anyone who demands a reduction in working hours from 38 to 35 hours and could get 36 hours in an overall package should not paralyze the entire country. The strike is groundless because Deutsche Bahn has repeatedly emphasized that it wants to complete the negotiations on the basis of the moderators’ overall proposal – including a 36-hour week with full wage compensation.
The GDL had called for a new and improved offer from the railway in order to avoid strikes. Deutsche Bahn, in turn, offered new negotiations at the weekend based on a concept developed by moderators in the last round of negotiations. That’s not enough for the GDL. She had promised further strikes and no longer wants to announce them with the usual lead time of 48 hours. Deutsche Bahn can hardly set up an emergency timetable.
The key point is the demand for a 35-hour week with full wage compensation for shift workers. Currently working 38 hours.
