The electrification of car drives is making giant strides. This is exemplified month after month by new registrations in Austria and also at the Linz Auto Spring in the Design Center, which will be open next Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Around 200 new cars from 40 brands will be on display this year – from A for Abarth and Alfa Romeo to V for Volvo and VW. “80 percent of all vehicles on display already have an alternative drive,” says Christoph Günther, exhibitor and member of the exhibition association’s board.

“And 30 percent of all exhibits have a fully electric drive,” adds Ernest Wipplinger, exhibitor and spokesman for Austria’s oldest continuous car trade fair. For comparison: In 2022, only around half of the new cars on display had an electrified drive; in 2020 it was a good 30 percent.

Charge your electric car for free

To take this development into account, there is a premiere this year: a total of 20 charging stations are available for free charging between the Design Center and Franckstrasse for visitors who travel to the car spring with their electric cars. Keba, the specialist for e-car charging solutions, is building this temporary charging park together with Linz AG.

In addition to the 15 dealers who are gathered in the Association of Linz Automobile Dealers, there is also a guest exhibitor this year – the Pichler car dealership is presenting the BYD brand for the first time in the Design Center.

OÖN is giving away a Cupra Born

There’s driving fun to be won at the OÖNachrichten Auto Spring stand: This year, a fully electric Cupra Born worth 44,900 euros will be raffled off. The classy five-door model is one of the most popular electric cars, and not just in Austria.
